How to Find Jobs: Complete Your Mom Project Profile
Looking for a job that fits your life, not the other way around? Whether you’re searching for flexible work, a remote job, part-time opportunities, or your next full-time role, creating a complete profile on The Mom Project is the most important first step.
Your profile does more than tell us (and hiring managers) about your work experience. It helps you showcase your skills, experience, career goals, and what you’re looking for next, so you can discover opportunities that align with your needs.
And if you’re a mom returning to work, someone making a career change, a caregiver looking for more flexibility, or someone simply ready for your next opportunity, your profile can help employers understand what you bring to the table.
Here at The Mom Project, we get asked daily “what advice can you give me while looking for a job?”
The No. 1 thing we will tell you is, the more complete your profile, the more useful it becomes. From your work history and skills to your job preferences and experience, every detail helps create a clearer picture of the opportunities that may be right for you.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to create or update your profile on The Mom Project, what information to include, and how to make your profile work harder for your job search.
Why complete your Mom Project profile?
Your profile is more than a form to fill out, it's one of the ways you tell employers, and recruiters at The Mom Project, what you're looking for and what you have to offer. Consider this profile part of your personal brand. It also gives you the following benefits:
Better job matches
The more information you provide about your work experience, skills, capabilities, seniority, compensation goals, and work preferences, the better our (unbiased) algorithm can match you with relevant job opportunities.
Your profile information helps our talent community automatically send you job alerts that are more closely aligned with your experience and what you're looking for next.
Increase your chances of standing out
A complete profile is 10 times more likely to stand out to recruiters and employers when you apply to opportunities through The Mom Project.
Many parts of your profile are visible to recruiters and employers and can supplement the information on your resume, giving them a more complete picture of your experience and skills.
Become more searchable
Every section is important! When companies hiring or someone from our team searches for potential candidates, a completed profile helps us identify you for relevant opportunities.
The more we know about you, the more ways there are for us to find the right fit.
Bonus: Turn your completed profile into a resume
Already have a profile, but need a resume? We can help with that!

Haven’t started a profile yet and are wondering what you need?
Here's what you can expect to include:
1. Basic Information
No matter what, you’ll always need to with the basics:
- First and last name
- Phone number
- Email address
- ZIP code
- Website
You'll also share information about your current career status and goals, including what you want The Mom Project to help you achieve and your current employment status.
This information doesn't appear on your resume, but it does help us understand what you're looking for so we can better match you with relevant opportunities. The more info you can share, the better your matches.
2. Resume
Upload your most current resume to your profile. Profile sections will auto-fill based on what you’ve included.
Don't have an up-to-date resume?
That's okay, Resume Rev (mentioned above) can use the information in your completed profile to create a resume for you. Just skip this step for now and enter your work history in the next section. Resume Rev works best when you have a completed profile, just don’t forget to come back!
Remember: Your profile and resume work together, so keeping both current can help you present a more complete picture of your experience.
3. Professional Experience
This is where you tell us more about what you do, what you're good at, and where you've built your experience.
Start with your resume headline
Your resume headline should quickly communicate your professional experience. For example:
- Senior Marketing Manager
- Project Manager and Content Strategist
- Finance and Bookkeeping Professional
It’s always exciting to get creative, but this headline is used in many ways to support search functionality. So instead of “Rockstar Mom of Four,” make sure you are including keywords that reflect your direct work experience.
Pro Tip: If your background spans multiple disciplines, your headline can help bring those experiences together.
Add your seniority level
Select the level that best represents your experience:
- 0 - 4 years of experience (Junior)
- 5 - 8 years of experience (Mid-level)
- 9+ years of experience (Senior)
Add your industries
Select the industries where you have experience. You can add up to six.
Highlight your expertise
Choose your primary expertise, such as “marketing” or “science & education”. Based on your selection, you'll be able to choose relevant talents within that field of expertise.
You can add:
- Up to 3 talent capabilities related to your primary skillset
- Up to 3 additional talent capabilities
Pro tip: Max these out. The more relevant information you provide, the more we know about the kind of work you're qualified to do.
Add your skills
Use the search field to add relevant skills, tools, applications, and areas of knowledge.
Think broadly about the skills you use at work. Include technical skills, software, functional expertise, and other capabilities that could help employers understand what you can do.
Don't see an exact match? Look for the closest relevant option.
Add your work experience
Treat this section like the experience section of your resume. And remember, if you didn’t upload one this will help you build a draft with Resume Rev.
For each position, include your role and several bullet points describing your contributions and accomplishments. Instead of simply listing responsibilities, focus on what you accomplished and the value you created.
For example, instead of:
Managed social media.
Try:
Developed and executed a social media strategy that increased engagement and brand visibility.
Use strong action words such as led, created, developed, grew, launched, improved, built, managed, and drove.

Have a career gap? Tell the story.
If you took time away from paid work to raise your family or for another reason, you can add a career pause to your profile.
A career pause gives you an opportunity to acknowledge the time away rather than leaving an unexplained gap in your work history.

Remember: You don't have to hide your career journey! Your path may not look linear and that's okay. Our algorithm doesn’t penalize you for career breaks, your profile will still be surfaced for opportunities based on the skills and experiences you add.
4. Work Goals: Tell us what you're looking for
Finding the right job isn't just about your skills, it's also about whether the job fits your life.
That's why your profile includes flex factors that help us understand what kind of work you're looking for. You can share:
Your job search status
Are you:
- Actively looking and accepting interviews?
- Casually looking?
- Not currently looking to make a move?
Your ideal work arrangement
What are you looking for?
- Freelance work
- A permanent position
- Other opportunities
- Or are you still figuring it out?
Your availability
How many hours per week can you work?
Where you can work
Tell us whether you're looking for:
- Remote work
- Hybrid work
- In-office work
Compensation
You can indicate whether you want to be matched only with jobs above a certain compensation level.
Travel
Share how far you're willing to commute and how much you're willing to travel for work.
Scheduling
Let us know whether you need flexibility around your work days or hours.
Don't be afraid to be specific.
It can be tempting to leave your preferences vague because you don't want to eliminate opportunities, but knowing what you need is an important part of finding the right fit.
The goal isn't to match you with every job. It's to help you find opportunities that work for you.
5. Education and certifications
Add your education and any applicable certifications. This information is used as part of your resume.
Pro Tip: Make sure your education and certifications are current so recruiters and employers have the most complete picture of your qualifications.
6. Create your Standout Statement
Your Standout Statement is your opportunity to answer one important question:
Why should someone want to know more about you?
Think of it as your personal professional introduction.
Use it to highlight:
- Your experience
- Your biggest strengths
- Your accomplishments
- What you're passionate about
- What you want to do next
Keep it concise, authentic, and specific.
For example, rather than saying:
Experienced marketing professional with strong communication skills.
Try to communicate what makes your experience distinctive and the kind of value you bring.
Your Standout Statement can also help you prepare for one of the most common interview questions:
"Tell me about yourself."
